Why Superficially Exaggerated?
Superficially Exaggerated can be broken into its two main constituent terms. The term ‘Superficially’ comes from the word superficial which means to ‘lack in-depth and solidity; and only concerned with the obvious or apparent’. ‘Exaggerated’ is the past derivation of the word exaggerate which means to ‘describe or state in too strong terms’.
All in all, Superficially Exaggerated is a way to describe the current ‘reality’ of our world where things and issues that do not have any in-depth value to society have been overrepresented as being of primordial importance towards the normal functioning of society.
Superficially Exaggerated was an aphorism that was coined back during the foundations of this website way back in 2019. My younger self was completing a year of university in the bustling metropolis of Nairobi, Kenya. The transition to this newly found independence exposed me to both the harsh and pleasurable realities of the modern, civilized, and urbanized society. In a nutshell, I gained a perspective of the world through the lens of a young person, thus making me aware of the wider trends of societal dysfunction that are treated as normal.
My goal for setting up this site is for it to be an informational haven for inducing critical thought on crucial societal issues. I hope to revive this avenue of thinking, particularly among young people, in a bid to recreate interest in issues of governance. It is said that free thinking is dying. The majority of the population is growing dependent on a few to make decisions for the good of the larger society. I believe that you and I both can change that.
